TCE licenses are issued for a specific computer on a TCE server. The licenses are linked to the MAC address of one or more network cards on the computer.
If TCE is operated in a server farm, a specific computer can be used as a license server for all other computers. These computers can then retrieve the licenses from the license server. TCE only counts licenses in use at the same time.
TCE basically knows two types of licenses:
A development license is retrieved from a started TCE development environment. The number of knowledge bases opened in the development environment is negligible. If TCE Develop is terminated, the development license is released.
A runtime license is counted for every started application of a Windows or web client by TCE. It is irrelevant here which or how many knowledge bases are used in the application. If the application is closed, the runtime license is released.
If a TCE server is installed for the first time, a demo license for the start of exactly one development environment and one Windows or web client is installed. This demo license enables the creation of a maximum of 20 classes in a knowledge base. If a client is started with a demo license, a window appears at the start, which indicates the demo license or an outstanding license.
Licenses can be requested from TAP.CON using the TCE Monitor program. To do this, a file for the license request must be generated. The desired number of development licenses and runtime licenses as well as the MAC addresses of the server from which the license request was generated are stored in this text file.
Now send the license request by email to info@TAP.CON.de. The license request will be checked, and an encrypted license file will be sent back to you by email. You can now also import this license file via the TCE Monitor. The existing demo license file is overwritten, and the server is now regularly licensed. Please note that the license must be read in by the required link to the MAC addresses on the same computer from which the license request was created.
With a few exceptions, licenses have an expiration date. No licenses are available after the expiry date has passed. Please make sure to provide your server with a new license file before the license expires.
If you want to populate other servers with TCE servers, you can specify the remote license server using the TCE Monitor program. By default, TCE uses the TCP protocol for port 7832 for communication between servers. Therefore, when specifying the remote license server, you must enter the IP address of the server with port 7832 (unless the port number has been changed in the registry).
If the additional TCE server uses its own license, the server's licenses are used up first before the remote licenses are used. This enables the installation of TCE servers on computers used offline. These computers usually only have a license volume that enables local operation.
